Chunghwa Telecom uses mobile signal triangulation technology to convert mobile signal data into traffic data after de-identification. This technology has been developed into a data-driven, big data mobile signal traffic platform which provides real-time road conditions for major roads across Taiwan, using deep learning for traffic prediction. Big data analysis is also used for vehicle and travel path analysis, which is then applied to estimate urban carbon emissions and support transportation management agencies in assessing the effectiveness of carbon reduction policies.

Dynamic signal strategies developed using AI Image Recognition ease traffic congestion and ensure smoother traffic flow!

AI imaging technology for traffic volume surveys, including average speed, traffic volume, volume of turning traffic at intersections, red light waiting stop time rates, and green light usage rates, are used to select traffic volume indicators based on intersection characteristics to develop dynamic signal control strategies and traffic signal plans that respond to traffic conditions in real time based on micro-level intersection volume makes traffic management more flexible, addressing sudden traffic surges, and easing congestion. Dynamic signal control also takes into account emergency vehicles, including ambulances and fire trucks. Configured lights facilitate passage of emergency vehicles through intersections, improving the efficiency of rescue and disaster relief.

Because light rail tracks are close to urban roads, drivers frequently mistakenly cross tracks or fail to observe signal violations, resulting in collisions.

Chunghwa Telecom has created a variety of successful ICT applications over the years for a range of museums as well as cultural tourism sites both at home and abroad. With the advance of AI technology, CHT continues to innovate and broaden the possibilities for cultural technology applications.

This exhibit demonstrates the integration of XR virtual characters with LLMs (large language models) using Narrative Design storytelling techniques to create game-style NPC (non-player character) missions. Through interactive discussion with the virtual character Emperor Qianlong, then completing designated tasks, visitors can learn about the cultural artifacts in each course level during the process of completing your game tasks. In addition to AI interactive dialogs, the exhibit also integrates visual recognition technology and near field communication (NFC) for interactive game props, creating cultural experiences with greater interactivity, educational value, and entertainment, and showcasing applications of innovative cultural technology.

In completing the National Development Council's Plan, Chunghwa Telecom has created the YoCity engagement automation platform with the three main pillars: events and exhibitions, commercial venues, and city guides as service verification and business model development scenarios. In the case of identifying alerted motorcycle exhaust pipes, in response to 2025 environmental regulations, exhaust pipe and license plate recognition technology are used to identify non-original or non-certified exhaust pipes and to provide the associated license plate information, allowing environmental protection agencies to effectively secure evidence and increase the efficiency of evidence collection, thereby improving environmental quality.

A new type of environmental violation involves detecting truck cargo beds and detection of black net covering to identify video of gravel trucks, trucks covered but with damaged nets, and trucks with uncovered cargo.

It helps the time and manpower consuming burden of traditional video verification by authorities and improves the efficiency of government operations.

Hi-Fence technology uses lightweight embedded AI edge computing to detect people, vehicles, and people with vehicles in region of interest(ROI), and sends real-time alerts via instant messaging software, raising the efficiency of surveillance.

In response to the rapid growth of global shipping demand, countries around the world are committed to building safe and efficient ports, and smart ports have become an important issue. Chunghwa Telecom utilizes AI, 5G, IoT, and edge computing in collaboration with Taiwan International Ports Corporation to implement an automated gate system, ensuring security and access control for personnel, vehicles, and containers entering and exiting major international commercial ports across the country. At the same time, we are developing automated container yard technology to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of operations, including entry/exit management, storage areas, and dockside processes. By integrating cross-system data across port operations, shipping companies, transportation, and customs clearance, we provide a comprehensive shipping and smart port solution, driving the 2030 Smart Port Development Vision.

  • Gate Clearance Process Integration: AI vehicle and container image recognition, RFID identification for people and vehicles, and Kiosk personnel control technologies are applied to the automated gate system. This solution provides vehicle, container, and personnel control, multiple clearance processes in the port area, and digital pandemic prevention measures, reducing container truck clearance time from 4 minutes to less than 10 seconds per truck. The system enables 24-hour seamless clearance for commercial port areas and free trade zones. The project was recognized with the Executive Yuan'Public Project Golden Axe Award. 
  • Container Yard Personnel and Vehicle and Container Identification and Positioning Technology: Integrating RFID personnel access cards, eTag-assisted license plate recognition, container yard positioning and guidance technology, and off-site vehicle prediction technology. This system is applied to automated container yard entry and exit, storage area loading and unloading confirmation, and other operations. The system improves container yard operational efficiency, reduces the time and errors associated with cumbersome manual processes of yard management. This achievement has been implemented at Kaohsiung Port and Taichung Port Terminal, where average operation time is less than 30% of that at other container yards in the same port. This project was recognized by the Ministry of Economic Affairs for industrial innovation, winning the "Process/Workflow Innovation Award".
